Aston Villa vs Derby County Preview

|

Johnny Russell, sadly now in the American league, tackles Jack Grealish in the game at Pride Park earlier this season, which the Rams won 2-0

Derby County makes the relatively short trip to Villa Park this Saturday, and what a game it promises to be. Both the Rams and Villa are still in the hunt for promotion, Villa at the time of writing has a slim chance of still getting the last automatic promotion place but Fulham plays Sunderland on Friday evening and are expected to move on to 88 points, which Villa could only match and have an inferior goal difference.

Derby, on the other hand, need at least a point to stay in front of Millwall and the chasing bunch and Middlesbrough could do the Rams a favour by beating the Lions on Saturday. Millwall then has to play Villa at the Den on the final day.

So it is all very exciting and many different scenarios can take place before Sunday 6th May.

Getting back to Derby County and Aston Villa, the Villans are expected to welcome back influential defender John Terry, the veteran defender is coming back from injury. Jonathan Kodjia could also return.

The Rams are expected to field the same side that beat Cardiff on Tuesday, which could mean leading scorer Matej Vydra again starts on the bench for Derby. Derby has no other injury worries and hopes the settled side and new formation could bring dividends against Villa.

The game itself is a sellout and a crowd of 41,000 (2,671 Rams) will be at Villa Park. Derby hasn’t won at Villa Park since November 1988, that is a run of ten games.
