Valentin Gjokaj, the man with unpronounceable surname, has become the latest Derby County player to be called up for international duty after being selected in the Albania Under-21 squad for their friendly match with Macedonia in early February.

Gjokaj was born in Switzerland but also qualifies for Albania and will join up with their squad for the game due to be played on February 6th. The young defender joined The Rams from FC Luzern in the summer for an undisclosed fee after paying his own air fare to come across for a trial at Pride Park. After impressing enough to earn himself a deal Gjokaj made his only senior appearance so far on the opening day of the season against Sheffield Wednesday. Having been a fixture in the Under-21 development squad he also spent time on loan at Carlisle United where he made one appearance from the bench. Having returned to Derby he has now earned the international call-up and Nigel Clough told dcfc.co.uk:

“We`ve had a huge amount of call-ups, which is fantastic for our players and the club. Val`s progressed nicely since joining us in the summer and this is a nice reward for him.”
