Russell Anderson has signed a new contract with Derby that will ensure his future lies at Pride Park.

The 31-year-old has been secured on a two-year contract with Nigel Clough happy to fend off competition to keep the defender at Pride Park.

“Russell has proved his quality at this level. He will have a big part to play in our squad for the new season and beyond.

This is the perfect start to what is going to be an important summer of recruitment.

Russell is the exact type of character we are looking for; a strong personality who is determined and committed.

We have had to act quickly to beat off competition from other Championship sides but were always confident of securing his future.”

Clough was talking to the official website.

Anderson join the Rams on a short-term contract in January after having his Sunderland contract cancelled by mutual consent. Despite the Scotland international taking a while to make his breakthrough for Clough he’s come in and been impressive of late and this has seen his services retained.
