Miles Addison’s return from injury wasn’t something that Nigel Clough said he was ever going to rush, however this return could take even longer than we anticipated.

The 21-year-old has had surgery on his long-term foot injury in an attempt to finally cure this an enable the talented defender to get his career back on track but a return much before the end of the year would have been a bonus for us, and we all knew this.

A return to play a part in any part of next season isn’t something the Rams boss is expecting though.

“We have pretty much written him off for next season, and if he does come back early it would be March or April time

The fact he is out for a while is a small price to pay for Miles if he can play injury-free for the next 10 years.

He is a determined character and he is fully focused on doing his rehab properly. There is no pressure on him to get back next season; we don’t have a set target for him.

If he comes back next season then lovely, but if not then we’re telling him not to worry.”

Clough was talking to the official website.

This might come as a bit of a surprise, that he’ll miss the whole of next season, but Clough is right, that to give Addison a long-term career, pain free from this troublesome injury, is something that is better for everyone.

Rushing him back could see his career deteriorate and crumble away too soon. It’ll be worth the wait for Addison, for everyone concerned!
