Newly appointed Port Vale boss Micky Adams has ruled out, or at least played down, rumours linking Robbie Savage with a player-coach role at Vale Park.

“With Sav, we couldn’t afford him. If he wanted to be a player-coach, he has my number – although I believe both lads have a lot of life left as footballers.”

Adams was talking to the Evening Telegraph.

Savage and Paul Dickov, the other Adams mentions, have both played under him in the past at Leicester and the 34-year-old Welshman also had a loan spell under him with Brighton last season.
