Thursday’s loan transfer deadline day saw plenty of comings and going at Pride Park as Paul Jewell boosted his squad with some signings, and allowed others to leave.

Liam Dickinson is still waiting for his breakthrough at Derby, and this will have to wait until 2009 at least. Following a three-month loan with Huddersfield the 23-year-old has now been sent out on loan until the start of January, this time to Championship rivals Blackpool.

As one striker left another arrived though, with Luke Varney coming in on loan from Charlton until January when this deal will become a permanent transfer worth up to £1.5m. Another name entering Pride Park is West Ham’s highly rated defender James Tomkins, who comes in on loan until the end of December.

A further three players did depart Derby however, Lewis Price looked to be returning to the club but his loan with MK Dons was then extended. 20-year-old defender Mitchell Hanson has joined Notts County on loan and Jay McEveley again goes out on loan, after a spell with Preston, joining Charlton this time for three-months as part of the deal that saw Varney come here.
